An Overhaul.

Archive, Life

I’d like to do an overhaul with, and seeing as this is in fact my blog, I think I’ll do just that.

Lately I’ve found that while I love to rant on Twitter and YouTube, it’s just not always feasible. Sometimes I feel that my rants aren’t Twitter-appropriate, or may not be welcome by my followers. Other times, I won’t have the chance to record an emotional/unscripted video for a week or two, meaning that I’m keeping all of this bottled up (bleugh, I hate that phrase).

My friends get most of my rants to be honest, and at times it makes me feel guilty for taking up their time. It’s obviously a better idea to rant to strangers, right? I mean, you’re choosing to ramble around this site. I’m not forcing you against your will (hopefully — gosh, imagine if I became so desperate that I kidnapped people and forced them to read my posts, ha). It’s your choice to waste your time, and I can’t be guilty about your choices.

I genuinely don’t know where I’m going with this post.

Anyway, first rant done. Do 205 words count as a rant? I suppose on Twitter, that’d be a good five or six tweets.

Some news – I’ve been shortlisted for two awards in the Blog Awards Ireland. The first is for “Best Blog Post,” in which “Lose You or Lose Me?” is nominated. The second is for “Best Innovation Blog.” That’s for my YouTube channel, jessiblahtv.

How mental.

Some Upcoming Events – CraicCon & Summer in the City

Archive, Life

YouTube is a big thing that a lot of people don’t get. There are plenty of events held worldwide to celebrate the platform, its content creators and the international communities it creates. One of these events is CraicCon, Irelands very own meet-up for both content creators and subscribers.

Last year, I attended the event (not that you’d know it as I’ve yet to even look at my vlogging footage, wherever it may be – worst daily vlogger ever). Although we all hid under trees for a while, the rain could not dampen our spirit (ba dum dum tsch). Surrounding yourself by people who are hilarious, kind and get you is a great way to spend a day, but the best part is certainly that everybody in attendance is passionate about online video creation and the future of digital media. This year, I’m looking forward to doing it all again and I can’t recommend enough that you join me.

CraicCon is being held at UCD in Dublin this Saturday, and tickets are available anseo for just five euro. The wonderful Marco Danesi (marcoinabox) will be reppin’ YouTube with his panel on collaboration, while the other panel “Craicing YouTube” will see a number of the bigger YouTubers among us discussing their success. When I say that Ireland has some of the best YouTubers in the world here, I honestly mean it. I’ll link a few of my favourites at the bottom of this post.

I’ll also be at Summer in the City for all three days next week, which I’m ecstatic about. This will be my first time in attendance, and I truly adore London. Being in the city again will be wonderful.

That’s all I wanted to say. If you see me at either event, please say hi! I often get tweets after events from people saying they saw me at a concert or wherever, but were too afraid to approach me. But you know, I don’t usually bite!

Bob Marley

Today marks what should have been Bob Marley’s 70th birthday. To call him a talented man is an understatement. Marley was wise beyond his years, with such a powerful connection to music and words. His untimely death at 36 was a great tragedy. While it hurts to think of how much good he could have done for this world, it’s astonishing to think of what he achieved in such a short space of time.

He should still be with us today.

Marley once said that his music would live on forever, and he was right. In honour of the great man himself, below is a list of some of his best quotes.

“So I throw my cards on your table! I want to love you… love and treat you right.”

“One good thing about music – when it hits you, you feel no pain.”

“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.”

“Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I’m not perfect – and I don’t live to be. But before you start pointing fingers… Make sure your hands are clean.”

“The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for.”

“Love would never leave us alone, and in the darkness there must come out to light.”

“If something can corrupt you, you’re corrupted already.”

“Better to die fighting for freedom than be a prisoner all the days of your life.”

“Don’t worry about a thing. Every little thing is gonna be alright.”

“Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you.”

“The day you stop racing, is the day you win the race.”

You’ve got to wonder what he would make of the world today, and the way we live. Would Bob like the way technology is such an integral part of so many peoples lives worldwide? No doubt about it, I think he wouldn’t. That’s another debate for another day.

R.I.P. Robert Nesta Marley O.M. You were a great man.

Liebster Blog Award

First of all, thanks a bunch to Halfway Amazing for nominating me for a Liebster Blog Award. I had never heard of it before now, and am really touched that you nominated me.

If you are as clueless as I was as to what a Liebster Blog Award is, it is effectively like a tag post. Once nominated, you nominate some your favourite blogs for the award.

*The Official Rules of the Liebster Blog Award (From the Wording Well Website):
1.  Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
2. Display the award on your blog (Note that the best way to do this is to save the image to your own computer and then upload it to your blog post.)
3. Answer 11 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
4. Provide 11 random facts about yourself.
5. Nominate 5-11 blogs that you feel deserve the award, who have a less than 1000 followers
6. Create a new list of questions for the blogger to answer.
7. List these rules in your post (You can copy and paste from here.)
8. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it (they might not have ever heard of it!)

My questions!

What are your favorite types of posts to read?

While I really enjoy how-to posts, I find those about peoples lives are possibly the most interesting. When people allow themselves to be honest and vulnerable online at their lowest points, it’s particularly heartwarming to read of their successes. That level of vulnerability is something I’m still trying to get to grips with myself though.

If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?

I’m extremely torn. For someone who goes away so often I haven’t been to many places at all. Countries that come to mind that I’d adore to visit are Italy, Australia, Japan, India and America. While the first place to come to my head was Italy, I then thought about Australia and their wonderful landscapes and wildlife. It’s also where my favourite soap (Home and Away) and my favourite director (Baz Luhrmann) are from.

You know what, I made this way harder than it has to be. Simple answer – Zac Efron’s house.

What is your favorite joke?

How do you fit fifty Pikachus into a tiny car? You Poke-ém-on!

Have  you ever been in a food fight?

Nope! I wish I could tell some awesome story about a time when I was though. While I assume food fights can be terribly fun, I’d imagine they can be quite yucky and disgusting at the same time.

What’s one of your most embarrassing moments?

Suddenly my head has gone blank. I’ll have to get back to you on this one.

If you were invisible for a day, what would you do?

For such a popular question, I have no definite answer. I would do one of three things. Firstly, I would like to snoop around a major Hollywood or possibly Bollywood film set on a production day. My second idea is to go somewhere with wonderful wildlife and just watch all the animals from up close. The third option would be to follow Baz Luhrmann around for the day. He’s so wonderful. I’d love to get that extra insight into how his mind works.

What was a good childhood memory for you?

The day I discovered Pokémon. My life changed forever.

How would your closest friends describe you?

Creative, silly and lovely – I think.

My questions for my nominated blogs are:

You are given a time machine and told that it’s slightly broken. If you use it, there’s a risk that you won’t be able to return to present day. Would you use it, and if so where would you go?

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

What gives you motivation to blog?

Favourite font?

Who is a big inspiration or role model for you, and why?

How are you?

What was one defining moment for you in life?

Would you ever publish an autobiography?

What is your dream job?

Kittens or puppies?

You’re running away from a lion. The person you love the most in the world is with you. The lion is about to catch them. Do you sacrifice yourself to distract the lion or let them die? (Don’t worry, I hate myself for asking this question too.)

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for… (Drumroll please.)

Everybody, Meet Lady

At time of writing, I have the pleasure of saying that I am sitting in a tea-soaked onesie. With a cup of scorching-hot tea in one hand and a packet of unopened cookies in the other, it was set to be a relaxing night. But no, the little pup lying on my lap was too intrigued by the noise of the cookie wrapper. Jumping up, she went for them. Of course I wasn’t going to lie there and watch her chew on my packet of cookies, so I pulled them away. Then the puppy jumped a few times and knocked tea all over me.

Everybody, meet Lady.

For a long time now, I’ve been planning on making a video to introduce the world to our new puppy à la JacksGap. Quite quickly it became clear that this would be much more difficult than I first imagined.

With Lucky we were fortunate in that he was a calm, quiet pup. He loved to cuddle, ????????????particularly with his Care Bear teddy. I’m feeling quite nostalgic looking at this picture to be honest. This was the only photo of Lucky as a pup that I could find, although we have plenty… somewhere.

Lady is quite the opposite of Lucky. She is constantly running, biting and barking. At first, Lucky didn’t really know what hit him and was in a sulk for days because this invader had come into his house. She was loved by everyone and I’d imagine he thought that she was staying way past her welcome. A month later, and he’s certainly perked back up though. They even play together and if she doesn’t jump around too much, he’ll lie on my lap if she’s already there. At first he would growl if she went near him while he was trying to rest, but now he voluntarily goes towards her!

She’s a little bit of a divil. If you look under the couches at any time, you’ll find a collection of stones. She has a thing for stones, but knows that I don’t like her having them so she darts past whenever she has one.

When we first got her, there were quite a few “oh my God, I’ve lost the puppy” moments. As I said, she is a divil. You turn your back for as long as it takes to put on the kettle and suddenly, she’s gone. My first place to check was always underneath the sofa, although it always took a bit of coaxing to get her out of her favourite hiding place. Failing that, it was back into the kitchen because sometimes she just magically reappears and you can’t even question how.

I’ve got a few puppies stories that I’ll share in future, but as you can tell she’s a bit of a wild one. That’s my camera strap that she’s chewing on there. Luckily she’s loves being in her playpen – although she sometimes barks if I put her in because she’s suddenly not tired. If she was a child, she would certainly be the type to always says “no, I’m not tired!” with their eyes half-closed while doing the sleepy-head-nod.

Hello There.

So, I’m Jessica. You might know me from Twitter, YouTube, or maybe even real life (*gasp*) but if you don’t, that’s okay too. I like to write a lot, but for some reason I don’t do it regularly. That is why I’ve decided that I would invest more of my time in blogging.

You see, I’ve many book ideas – some of which I honestly adore. It saddens me to say that I don’t write as regularly as I should. You might be thinking “but hey, why are you using your time to write this rather than your super-awesome novels?” Well, I’ve got to have other projects to keep me sane! But really, I think you should write at every opportunity you get if you have any intention of writing professionally.

I’ll be posting a collection of items on my blog, including photos, life recaps, ebook reviews and new videos. Just make sure you click follow so you don’t miss any of it! Wow, that’s a little cheesy, right? I won’t do that much. I promise.

I can’t believe you made it to the end of the post. Wow. Well done you! You’re my favourite, you know.
